Challenge
The Alexandra Writers Centre Society offers several courses geared towards writing short stories. Combined with the added barrier of an online class (required due to pandemic restrictions), it became clear that a more focused lines would be needed to convince writers to sign up for this course. Solution Drawing on a quote from a well-respected short-story author, Neil Gaiman, for the title of the course, the powerful words "ultimate" (an implicit promise of the best solution) and "magic trick" (giving writers a sense that their work is extraordinary) formed an eye-catching headline. The course description clearly identified the specific elements that the course would offer and how it would be structured, including a deliverable promise of students having the opportunity to put the lessons into practice and receive feedback on their work. Result Enrollment exceeded course capacity by 10%. |
